James Tarkowski’s future is always up for debate when the transfer window arrives – but that could all change with a takeover.

With Burnley close to going under new ownership, the Daily Mail reports the Clarets have held further talks over an improved contract for the West Ham-linked defender.

Tarkowski, 28, publicly stated in November that previous contract offers weren’t good enough, so is ultimately ready to leave when his contract expires in 2022.

However, the Clarets are maintaining a dialogue with Tarkowski and also want to tie down Jimmy Dunne and Josh Benson to longer-term deals.

ALK Capital, fronted by Alan Pace, are in pole position to buy Burnley. There is hope that deal will go through sooner rather than later.
