Fabio Celestini addresses Burnley’s lack of creativity against QPR
Fabio Celestini accepts his Burnley side struggled for creativity during their slightly fortuitous draw against QPR.
Largie Ramazani’s first-half strike was their only shot on target at Loftus Road last night, as they played out a 1-1 draw.
While QPR didn’t exactly carve open a host of clear-cut chances themselves, they still dominated, producing 20 shots on Gregoire Coudert’s goal.
“Absolutely,” Celestini conceded,” when asked if his side needed to show more going forwards.
“But I think we have, at the moment, I miss the 120 per cent or 100 per cent of every player in his quality.
“We compensate a little bit with the fighting spirit, this energy to try to go up, go out of this situation, but I know my players can do much better.
“But I know in this situation, it's very difficult for the player to give the best version of him.
I must accept, but for that, it's very important to go close today.
“It’s right, I think we don't have many, many chances today. I know many chances, but sometimes it's like that. Football is like that.
“Against Portsmouth, we have an expected goal of 1.60, and Portsmouth 0.2, and maybe we deserve three points. But football is just one.
“Today, maybe QPR deserves something more. Maybe, but we take one point. For that, that's football. But if you don't have the spirit today, you lose.”
Celestini was particularly keen to point out the lengthy team huddle that followed Ramazani’s first-half goal.
“Because it's not normal,” he explained. “I don't see that in every team.
“In a tough time, you score, okay, we are happy, and after, everybody goes in his position.
“I don't see that with many teams. In this tough time, the signal was, we are together.
“Now we don't concede goals, now we want to win. That's what I see in this image. We want to go forward, we want to go up, and for that, I think it's a very good signal.”
Celestini added: “When you are in a tough time in this position, for sure you are not 100 per cent.
“The only thing you can go out of this situation is the spirit. It's to be together. Otherwise, you lose always.”
