'I feel sick': Josh Cullen hurt by Burnley's shambolic collapse at Cardiff
Josh Cullen left sickened by Burnley’s collapse at Cardiff
Burnley skipper Josh Cullen was left sickened by his side’s weak capitulation at Cardiff City - which plundered the Clarets’ season to another new low.
Fabio Celestini’s side somehow conspired to throw away a 4-1 lead in South Wales on Saturday to lose 5-4.
It leaves the Clarets in deep trouble heading into the November international break, as they sit five points adrift of safety after just one win in 15.
Despite only coming off the bench and playing just half an hour, club captain Cullen stood up and took accountability for another dreadful day at the office.
“We just need to stand up and be stronger, simple as that,” he told Burnley’s official YouTube channel.
“We’re 4-1 up in the game and we concede tough goals. I’m not going to stand here and make excuses and say it’s tactical or anything like that, it’s as a group of players out there on the pitch. We have to stand up and be stronger and be harder to score against.
“We score four goals away from home and we probably could have scored more, because we had a lot of chances.
“We have to man up. We have to take this on the chin, as much as it hurts. I feel sick to be honest standing here, trying to dissect it and answer your questions, because it hurts really bad and everyone is hurting in there.
“We’re the people that have to turn it around and we have to look back, we have to be honest, we have to take the harsh lessons from it. We have to stand up and we’ve now got two weeks to work on it and make sure that we’re harder to score against and harder to beat.”
