Derby boss John Eustace makes 'greedy' admission after late Burnley draw

John Eustace gives his verdict on Derby’s draw against Burnley

John Eustace felt a point was the least his Derby County side deserved for their efforts against Burnley.

Despite the late nature of the equaliser, a draw was probably the least Derby deserved, having produced 16 shots on goal to Burnley’s six.

“I’m obviously happy with the point,” Eustace said. “Although disappointed that we didn't get all three, if I'm being greedy.

“I thought the whole game was there for us to defend properly, which we did for the majority of it - apart from the [Zeki Amdouni] goal, which is another soft goal on our part.

“We limited them to barely no opportunities really. They had lots of possession, which didn't hurt us, but I always felt we were a threat.

“First half we had two or three opportunities where maybe we could have scored, and then second half when it opened up, we put on some really exciting attacking players and I was happy with the efforts that we created then as well.

“So to come away and if we had lost the game would have been really disappointing of course, but I'm delighted in the end to get the point.”

Eustace did, however, admit it took his side to get to grips with Burnley during the first half, adding: “Burnley changed the way they built two or three times in the game and obviously they made a lot of changes before the match as well.

“The quality of their squad is there for everyone to see. The players coming in…it took us probably 45 minutes to adapt to their system.

“At half-time, we just changed one or two things on where we could feel we could press them or get higher up the pitch. We certainly did that.

“Even saying that, during the first half I thought we still had probably two or three of the better chances.

“So they had a lot of possession in the first half, but it didn't cause us any issues. We adjusted at half-time and then I felt we were the better team in the second half.”
