Burnley artist captures 'I'm a Celebrity' star Jordan North's 'happy place' mantra on canvas
A Burnley artist was so inspired by 'Im A Celebrity' star Jordan North flying the flag for Turf Moor he created a unique new painting.
The captivating canvas of the stadium with the words 'happy place' on it was painted by Peter Chippendale after well known Burnley fan Jordan kept repeating the phrase, followed by Turf Moor, to give him the courage to get through the four bushtucker trials he was voted to take part in.
Last night Jordan, who grew up in Harle Syke and attended St James Primary School, proved himself to be more popular than ever with viewers when he was voted as the first camp leader.
Peter would like to donate the painting to one of Jordan's favourite charities, either Pendleside Hospice, where he is an ambassador or Burnley FC in the Community.
Last week Burnley Football Club unveiled two new 'happy place' t-shirts and they are selling fast. Proceeds from the sales will be donated to the hospice and Burnley Community Kitchen.
Peter began painting while he was off work with heart problems and his wife Christine bought him a set of watercolours for Christmas.
Christine said: " I soon realised he had a talent and since then painting has helped him to get through other illnesses."
Last Christmas Peter suffered major complications and was placed on life support after a replacement knee operation. He was admitted to critical care and underwent three lifesaving operations.
He has spent months recovering and felt too unwell to paint but, as he was unable to go out during lockdown, he began to feel better and picked up his brush again in April.
Sadly Peter's eyesight is starting to deteriorate so he wants to enjoy his painting as much as possible.
Christine added: "I am so glad I bought him the paints all those years ago. Since he began painting again it is helping him to recover. Painting is so important to him now and helps to keep him going.
"He has a great sense of humour and this shows in some of his paintings with wobbly chimneys."
Both keen Burnley fans Peter, who has donated several paintings to various charities in the past, also did the illustrations for author Dave Thomas' children's book 'A Bee Named Bertie.'
Peter loves painting memories from his childhood, local scenes from old photographs and, of course, scenes from Turf Moor as both he and Christine are huge fans.
Christine added: "Both our families have happy memories of Burnley FC over the years, our grandparents were fans and we have always been.
"Turf Moor can be a very happy place for fans of the Clarets."
