'Point was a fair result' - Sean Dyche

Leading scorer Andre Gray gave the visitors the dream start against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough before Kieran Lee salvaged a point for the Owls in the second half.

Burnley's best chances fell to Sam Vokes who saw his header, just before the interval, spectacularly clawed off the line by Kieren Westwood.

The Welshman then failed to connect with substitute Matthew Taylor's exceptional diagonal pass that found him just yards from goal with only the Irish stopper to beat.

"A draw was probably fair overall, but I think we arguably had the best chance of the game which we unfortunately didn't take after a great cross and a great bit of movement from Sam Vokes," said Dyche.

"Both teams attempted to play on a really tough pitch tonight. They obviously made a change with Nuhiu coming in so they went back to front quicker, which I don't think is normal.

"I'm not being derogatory I just think they felt that the pitch wasn't that playable. Both team attempted to play and overall I think it was just about right.

"It happens because the weather has been horrendous. We've had trouble; we've got new surfaces at our training ground that have suffered from floods. I'm not over-questionning that, I'm just stating a fact. The pitch wasn't as good as maybe they'd hoped or as we'd hoped."

It was the first time in 18 outings that the Clarets hadn't picked up maximum points having taken the lead. The last time they failed to win after scoring first was 12 months ago when West Brom recovered to snatch a point at Turf Moor in the Premier League.

However, Dyche was delighted with another point on the road against tough opposition.

"They've only been beaten once here this season, they're a good side," he said. "We generally after the goal secured the play, kept the ball, but we just didn't keep it as well in the final third. Literally, with the basics, we gave it away too easy so we couldn't carve out as many chances.

"We kept giving the ball away - not in the defensive third or the middle third. I thought we were very secure with our play and we mixed it well but we just didn't have that detail to the game that we've had lately. We've had plenty of good days with lots of goals going in. That was the only question mark over my lads tonight.

"I'm really pleased with it - another point on the road. We're back at home this weekend. We're in a tough run of games but we're getting a lot of points on the table. They're a decent side and we've taken four points off them this season. It bodes well, it doesn't guarantee anything but we're in a good vein of form at the minute. We're going well."
