Manchester United sack Ruben Amorim days out from Burnley clash at Turf Moor
Manchester United have sensationally sacked Ruben Amorim days out from their clash against Burnley.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein is reporting the Red Devils have axed their boss after what appears to be a breakdown in relations with the club hierarchy.
Amorim’s final game came on Sunday, where United drew 1-1 with rivals Leeds United at Elland Road.
The Portuguese coach leaves United in sixth place in the Premier League table.
Former midfielder and current Under-18s coach Darren Fletcher will take over as interim boss and will be the man in the dugout at Turf Moor on Wednesday night.
A permanent appointment is “likely” to be delayed until the summer.

Amorim, who has spent 14 months in charge at Old Trafford, was contracted to remain with the club until 2027, with the option of a further year.
Speaking after the weekend’s draw at Leeds, Amorim hinted at tensions with those above him, declaring himself the “manager” of United and not the “coach”.
That’s despite being named head coach when he was appointed last year.
“It’s going to be like this for 18 months or when the board decide to change,” Amorim added. “That was my point, I want to finish with that. I’m not going to quit. I will do my job until another guy is coming here to replace me.”
After succeeding Erik ten Hag, Amorim’s United suffered their worst ever Premier League season last term, finishing 15th with 42 points.
They were also beaten in the Europa League final by Tottenham.
