'Out of my hands': Scott Parker discusses his Burnley future after 11th game wit...

Despite the start of a new year, the Clarets’ miserable run of form continued with a 2-0 defeat at the Amex Stadium on Saturday.

Scott Parker’s side were thoroughly outclassed by the Seagulls, succumbing to an 11th straight game without a win.

It prompted a scathing analysis of Burnley’s performance on Match of the Day, with pundit Jermain Defoe expressing surprise at how easy they are to score against after their defensive exploits last season.

“Burnley’s winless run now extends to 11 Premier League games, which is really disappointing,” he told presenter Mark Chapman.

"Last season in the Championship they conceded just 16 goals, whereas this season they’ve conceded 39 already.

"The signs [against Brighton] were there from early on. The defending was poor and it was too easy to get through.

"They got bodies back and they don’t look like they’re in danger, but they make no contact and it’s poor. They caused their own problems to be honest.

"They were guilty of overplaying. When you’re away from home sometimes it’s difficult, can you get the ball from back to front quicker? They just continued to play the same way.

"No-one was engaging, they weren’t defending their own box and Brighton could have scored four goals.

"You can see why Scott Parker was disappointed because it’s not a reflection of the team that he wants to put out. As I said, last season they conceded 16 goals and it’s almost against his principles...conceding 39 goals is way too many.”
