As recently reported, the club’s board are discussing Parker’s position as head coach following last week’s confirmation of relegation from the Premier League.

With four games still remaining, Burnley’s fate has already been sealed after a hugely disappointing campaign in the top flight, which has seen them win just four of their 34 games.

The Clarets, who head to Leeds United on Friday night, also find themselves in the midst of a run of just one win in 25.

As it stands, the Burnley Express understands no decision has been made on Parker’s future despite speculation to the contrary.

It’s currently business as usual at Gawthorpe, with Parker still taking training as normal. His pre-Leeds press conference has also been confirmed to take place on Thursday afternoon.

But with growing uncertainty over Parker’s position, with mooting of a potential parting of the ways this summer, it’s also to be expected if Burnley’s board are keeping their options open and considering alternatives.

It comes as Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that talks are “speeding up” between Burnley and Gerrard.

“Clarets have entered talks with Steven Gerrard’s representatives to make the Reds legend their new head coach,” he wrote on X.

“Englishman has given the green light to move forward.”

He also added the 45-year-old is keen to get back into management, having been out of work since leaving Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq in January 2025, and would “jump at the chance” to take over.

The Liverpool legend was also linked to Bristol City this morning, with the Robins said to have offered an “attractive and enticing project”.

Gerrard isn’t the only man to be linked with Burnley’s managerial position in recent times, with Vincent Kompany’s former Clarets assistant Craig Bellamy also mooted as a potential replacement.

The 46-year-old was in the running for the vacancy the last time it became available, but ended up taking over as boss of the Welsh national side, while Parker was instead installed at the helm.
