Journalist Alan Nixon is reporting that the Liverpool legend is under consideration for the Turf Moor hotseat following the Clarets’ relegation from the Premier League.

He adds the 45-year-old is keen to get back into management, having been out of work since leaving Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq in January 2025, and would “jump at the chance” to take over.

He’s also previously managed Rangers and Aston Villa to varying degrees of success.

The club aren’t commenting on the speculation.

As recently reported, Burnley’s board are currently in the midst of discussing Parker’s future following a disappointing campaign in the top flight.

The Burnley Express understands those deliberations are continuing and no decision has been made.

It marks a third straight relegation from this level and, while the Clarets have bounced back on both previous occasions, pressure will be on to ensure another instant return.

Gerrard isn’t the only man to be linked with Burnley’s managerial position in recent times, with Vincent Kompany’s former Clarets assistant Craig Bellamy also mooted as a potential replacement.

The 46-year-old was in the running for the vacancy the last time it became available, but ended up taking over as boss of the Welsh national side, while Parker was instead installed at the helm.

After failing to guide Wales to this summer’s World Cup, losing to Bosnia in a play-off semi-final, Bellamy addressed his future amid the ongoing speculation, with Celtic also linked to his services.

"I really enjoy this,” he said.

“We'll talk more after it probably as well because my mind is just so focused on [Wales’ friendly against] Northern Ireland at the present moment. But yeah, it's the best role in the world.”

He added: "This is the best. Nothing will ever compare to this [job], so why would I want to wish it away?"
