Burnley release statement as West Ham's James Ward-Prowse becomes first January signing
Burnley have made West Ham’s James Ward-Prowse their first signing of the January transfer window.
The midfielder arrives on a loan deal until the end of the season, with no option to buy.
The Burnley Express reported on Monday how the Clarets had moved away from a potential move, only to quickly re-ignite talks.
“I’m really pleased to be here,” Ward-Prowse said of his move.
“As soon as I heard of Burnley’s interest and spoke to the manager, I knew this loan spell was just what I needed.
“There’s a big battle between now and the end of the season, but I’m going to relish every moment.
“I just want to get out there, pull on the Burnley shirt and give my all for the challenge that’s ahead.”

The 31-year-old is a direct replacement for Josh Cullen, who is facing around nine months on the sidelines with an ACL injury.
Clarets boss Scott Parker has also been keen to add some experience and know-how to a squad relatively inexperienced at Premier League level – and Ward-Prowse certainly fits the bill.

The dead-ball specialist has 409 Premier League appearances to his name for Southampton, West Ham and Nottingham Forest.
Capped 11 times by England, scoring twice, Ward-Prowse moved to East London from St Mary’s for a £30m fee in 2023.
He’s only made six appearances in all competitions this season, however, with his last outing coming back in September.
He’s not been part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans at West Ham and is said to have trained regularly on his own. He also had his loan at Forest cut short last season when Espirito Santo was also in charge.
The Clarets have until 7pm on Monday, February 2 to finalise their transfer business.
Oliver Sonne is expected to finalise a loan move to Czech side Sparta Prague, joining Hannes Delcroix, Luca Koleosho and Michael Obafemi in leaving the club this month.
Sonne’s imminent departure should create another space in Burnley’s 25-man squad, with Cullen’s spot being filled by Ward-Prowse.
