Fabio Celestini analyses where it’s gone wrong for Burnley this season

Fabio Celestini has attributed Burnley’s worrying start to the Championship season to “many little problems”.

The 51-year-old takes over a Clarets side that has won just one league game so far this season, leaving them rooted inside the relegation zone.

Burnley’s disastrous form saw previous boss Nicky Hayen lose his job after just 106 days, the shortest spell of any manager in the club’s long history.

Prior to taking over last week, Celestini poured over footage of Burnley’s previous games to analyse how his new side performed.

When asked to pinpoint where Burnley have been going wrong, the Swiss coach said: “It’s very difficult to say when you are outside.

“But in the end, what I said to Diego [Lopez], sometimes, you have many little details. But when I see the games, it was not a big difference.

“Sometimes, it was one throw-in in the 96th minute. Sometimes a corner. Sometimes one mistake. But always something happens.

“Yes, we can, we can, we can, but in the end, no. Something is not just a big problem, it's many little problems.

“It's very difficult to see, because when you have the big problem, it's very clear: I must do that and finish.

“But when you have many, many, many little details, you lose people in the game. You lose maybe half person there, two people there, three people here, three people there.

“At the end, that makes a difference. For that, looking is what they need, because it was not a big problem. It was many little problems.

“For that, I think we are detecting. We can maybe put some other energy. Because I'm a Latin guy, I like smiling. I like to transmit and what we understand with Diego is, maybe I just must be authentic. Because I'm like that.

“It was easy for me too. When we detect like that, just I must be myself. Sometimes, you must adapt a little bit.

“But I think these three or four days, with my energy, the energy for the staff, we have the team to be more close and more together.”
