Burnley transfer window state of play as stance emerges on Ward-Prowse and Watson
It’s now considered unlikely that Burnley will sign James Ward-Prowse ahead of next Monday’s transfer deadline.
The Burnley Express understands the Clarets have moved away from a potential deal, which had been mooted for the last couple of weeks.
Scott Parker’s side were mulling over a potential loan swoop for the 31-year-old, who had been out of favour at the London Stadium.
But the midfielder was back in the fold for West Ham at the weekend, Nuno Espirito Santo naming him on the bench for the Hammers’ 3-1 win against Sunderland.
He didn’t get on the pitch though, meaning he’s still only made six appearances in all competitions this season, with his last outing coming back in September.
Burnley are known to be in the market for a central midfielder following the ACL injury sustained by skipper Josh Cullen, which is expected to keep him out of action for around nine months.
It’s also understood reports linking Burnley with a move for Brighton’s Tommy Watson are wide of the mark.

Championship quarter Bristol City, Millwall, Preston North End and Stoke City were also credited with interest in a potential loan deal by TEAMtalk.
It’s claimed clubs in Portugal, France and Germany have also been in contact with the Seagulls.
But sources have told the Burnley Express there’s no interest from the Clarets, with Watson’s name not even being discussed.

Parker’s side, who are now 10 points adrift of safety, have seven days to work on any transfer dealings, with the window closing at 7pm on Monday, February 2 – an hour before their game away at Sunderland.
The Clarets are yet to add any incomings, while Hannes Delcroix, Luca Koleosho and Michael Obafemi have all moved on, the latter two departing on loan.
While Parker declined to comment on Burnley’s interest in Ward-Prowse last week in the lead up to Saturday's 2-2 draw with Tottenham, he did reiterate the club continue to scour the market.
“We're active and we're trying to do things,” he said.
“I reiterate what I've said many a time, that obviously there's loads of different things that fall into play and loads of different variables that we need to make good decisions and the right decisions.
“We don't want to be adding anyone into this squad that can't bring quality and help us, character and everything.
“So regarding individuals, it's not something I would be quoting on or certainly saying, but we're active and we'll see how the next 10 days pan out regarding that.”
