Nicky Hayen outlines Burnley’s plans for three-week international break

Nicky Hayen provides update on Burnley’s plans for overseas training camp

Burnley continue to work through plans for a potential overseas training camp during the international break.

The Clarets now find themselves in the midst of an extended three-week break, with no game until the trip to Watford on Saturday, October 10.

Nicky Hayen had previously revealed the club were considering going abroad for what would essentially be a mini pre-season.

The under-pressure Clarets boss is keen to gel the squad together and get his ideas across, following the disastrous start to the new season which sees them prop up the Championship table.

It’s understood Burnley could be jetting off to Barcelona to visit the training facility of Espanyol, who are also owned by Alan Pace. But as of yet, no plans have been finalised.

With eight players called up for international duty, the benefits of getting the squad together could be lost without a number of key men.

Speaking after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Derby County, Hayen explained: “We're looking for the best facility.

“So we will have a few days off for the players, where they really can switch off for football, leave the negativity behind and come back with fresh energy.

“We also have a running programme, because for us it's like a new pre-season, even if it's three weeks, but it will be important.

“So it's like you start with the running sessions, then we go on a camp, and then we have the preparation towards Watford.

“I can say again it's a must-win game, but this will be a week and a game where we want to show a really new face and a totally different one than now.”
