Burnley contemplating training camp during upcoming international break
Nicky Hayen keen to take Burnley away for training camp
Nicky Hayen has revealed that Burnley are exploring the possibility of heading off for a training camp during the upcoming international break.
Following on from this weekend’s crucial clash against Derby County, the Clarets will find themselves in the unusual position of having no game for three weeks.
That almost gives Hayen and his coaches a mini pre-season to work with his players, something he’s particularly keen to do given his late arrival this summer and the subsequent signing of new players.
During Burnley’s poor start to the season, which sees them sit bottom of the Championship table and without a win to their name, Hayen has repeatedly stressed the importance of the upcoming break.
The Clarets boss, who is already facing some early pressure, is keen to get on the training pitch and get his methods across, without the constant preparation for games every three or four days.
When discussing Jamie Vardy’s debut off the bench against Swansea City, Hayen said: “I think you saw that we created chances with Jamie, he scored that disallowed goal.
“So yes, he will bring his experience into the team and we also have the players to deliver the balls into his runs, which is what he is really dangerous with.
“Only he had two sessions with us and that's the thing, all the players also have to know each other better and if you have game after game after game and you don't have training days, it's difficult to know each other better.
“That's why the international break will be really, really important for us, because we're thinking even to go [away] on a camp, to be together day and night, that we start to learn [from] each other better and grow to the best level possible.”
It’s understood no plans have been confirmed just yet, with players away on international duty an important consideration.
