Alan Pace addresses Burnley’s ‘challenging’ week ahead of Fabio Celestini’s first game
Alan Pace remains confident Burnley can turn things around despite their disastrous start to the season.
The Clarets were forced into an early sacking last week, dispensing with the services of Nicky Hayen last week after just 106 days.
It followed a 4-1 defeat at Lincoln City, which left Burnley rooted inside the Championship’s relegation zone.
Fabio Celestini has since been appointed and takes charge of his first game today at home to Portsmouth.
Writing in his programme notes ahead of this afternoon’s fixture, Burnley owner Pace addressed the club’s difficult week, as well as the appointment of Celestini and arrival of chief football officer Diego Lopez.
“It’s been a very challenging week following a disappointing result at Lincoln,” he penned.
“After the game we parted company with Nicky and I want to place on record my thanks for his hard work and commitment during his time with the club.
“I valued his thoughtfulness and professionalism and I wish him and his family the very best for the future.
“Since his departure, we announced Fabio Celestini as our new head coach and Diego López as chief football officer. I'm delighted to welcome both Fabio and Diego to the Burnley family.
“As chief football officer, Diego will oversee our football operations, recruitment and sporting structure, ensuring we strengthen the club for years to come.
“Fabio brings with him experience from clubs across Europe and I'm looking forward to seeing what he'll bring to the role.
“I was keen to get both appointments in place, as both Fabio and Diego will play an important role in raising standards across the club.
“It's been a disappointing start to the season but I'm confident that, as a group, we can turn things around and build towards a successful future.”
