Burnley given big decision to make after Aaron Ramsey injury blow
Aaron Ramsey becomes latest Burnley man to be sidelined
Burnley have been handed yet another injury blow with the news that Aaron Ramsey will be sidelined for six weeks.
The attacking midfielder, who has picked up a hamstring injury, joins an ever-growing list of absentees that includes the likes of Bashir Humphreys, Josh Cullen, Hannibal, Jaydon Banel, Jacob Bruun Larsen and Dastan Satpayev.
In total, including those who are out injured or have been left out of Burnley’s 25-man squad list, Nicky Hayen is expected to be without as many as 15 players for Saturday’s game against Derby County.
With one free spot still remaining in that squad list, it now gives Hayen a decision to make - with Marcus Edwards or Mike Tresor a potential answer for that right wing role that Ramsey has been occupying in recent games.
“Unfortunately Aaron Ramsey is out for six weeks with his hamstring, so it's another one on the list,” he said.
“But we have to look for solutions.”
When asked how soon we can expect a decision on the final spot, Hayen added: “This is a possibility in the upcoming hours and days. We're aware now also with Aaron being injured that we have to take a decision.”
Hayen, meanwhile, has seemingly ruled out occupying that last remaining space with the addition of another free agent signing.
“We have to see, but it's almost unlikely in this situation now,” he said. “We have to make a decision on how we're going to fill in that gap.”
In total, eight players were left out of Burnley’s squad list. Despite their inevitable disappointment, Hayen has been satisfied with how they’ve responded.
He said: “They've done everything we asked.
“There's still a spot available and we want to see the maximum effort to get that spot. Players are trying to get it and doing the things that we're asking.”
Elsewhere on the injury front, Hayen confirmed Anel Ahmedhodzic is now fully recovered from his bout of illness.
The Clarets are still without a whole host of names, with Cullen, Hannibal, Enock Agyei, Banel, Bruun Larsen and Satpayev all still sidelined for Saturday’s return to Turf Moor.
Ben Amos, Jordan Beyer, Humphreys, Shurandy Sambo, Edwards, Tresor, Ashley Barnes and Michael Obafemi, meanwhile, have all been left out of Burnley’s squad list. Unless chosen to fulfil that final spot, they’ll be unable to play again for Burnley until January at the earliest.
Burnley face a “must-win” game against Derby this weekend according to Hayen, with the Rams also situated in the Championship’s bottom three.
