Fabio Celestini reveals what he told Marcus Edwards
Fabio Celestini has revealed what he told Marcus Edwards after he took off the winger during Burnley’s bore draw with Portsmouth.
The new Clarets boss was seen engaging in a lengthy chat with the 27-year-old as he brought him off in the 85th minute of Burnley’s 0-0 draw with Portsmouth on Saturday.
It came seconds after Edwards and incurred the wrath of the Turf Moor faithful, having stopped to appeal to the referee for a foul, allowing a Portsmouth player to take the ball and break.
Edwards was arguably Burnley’s most dangerous player on the day, often causing problems picking up the ball in between the lines. But too often his end product let him down.
“He did, for me, a very good game,” Celestini said. “He played between the lines, he was one of the most dangerous players on the field.
“The feeling was always when you have the ball, something can happen. The problem is, in the last action, he stopped. We can't do that, we can't.
“For that, I said to him: ‘you play very well, you give everything, you try everything, but don't stop, don't stop’.
“We can't stop. In just the last second, we are on the field. But I'm very happy for the performance from Edwards. But this kind of situation is what we can do in this moment. Ever? Not just today.”
