Why Marcus Edwards and Mike Tresor were left out for Burnley vs Bristol City
Nicky Hayen explains absence of Marcus Edwards and Mike Tresor
Nicky Hayen has revealed the absence of Marcus Edwards and Mike Tresor against Bristol City was down to Burnley’s squad list dilemma.
Following last week’s closure of the summer transfer window, all clubs were required to submit their official 25-man squad list to the EFL.
These lists have not yet been published on the EFL’s website, although this must be done within seven days of Tuesday’s deadline, meaning they’re likely to appear before Burnley’s midweek trip to Wrexham.
Hayen confirmed the Burnley Express’ report that the Clarets left spots free in their squad for this weekend’s game against Bristol City, with those places to be filled at a later date.
“We're just looking for the 25 men's squad,” he said, when asked about the absences of Edwards and Tresor.
“So we have two spots open for positions that we want to fill in, but still they [Edwards and Tresor] can make the 25-man squad list, we just have to see what is the best decision.”
It comes as Burnley continue to scour the free agent market for further signings, despite their three additions on deadline day.
With Zian Flemming allowed to leave on the last day of the window, Burnley fans were left angry that no striker replacement was forthcoming.
Despite returning to the club on a one-year contract earlier this summer, it’s widely expected that Ashley Barnes won’t make the cut.
Players that missed Saturday’s 2-1 defeat, like Lucas Pires, Bashir Humphreys, Josh Cullen and Dastan Satpayev - must also be taken into account.
