Alan Pace thanks Nicky Hayen as Burnley quickly begin interview process
Alan Pace has thanked Nicky Hayen for his “hard work” and “commitment” after making the difficult decision to sack the Burnley boss.
The Belgian’s exit was confirmed in a brief 26-word statement on Saturday evening following the 4-1 defeat to Lincoln City.
But Pace has since taken to social media to record his appreciation for Hayen’s work, as the 46-year-old leaves after just 106 days in the role.
“I would like to personally thank Nicky for his hard work and commitment during his time at Burnley Football Club,” he penned.
“Nicky has given his all to the role, and I know how much time and effort he has put into his work with the players and staff.
“These decisions are never easy, but I want to express my sincere appreciation for the professionalism and dedication he has shown throughout his time with us.
“I wish Nicky and his family all the very best for the future.”
It comes as reports state Burnley have already begun the interview process for Hayen’s replacement, with BBC Sport’s Ian Dennis suggesting Rob Edwards and Carlos Corberan are today in for talks.
However, he’s since clarified that Corberan won’t be interviewed and is “not interested” in the Burnley vacancy.
Edwards has been out of work since leaving Wolves in June, having previously managed the likes of Middlesbrough, Luton Town, Watford and Forest Green Rovers.
It was reported earlier this summer that the 43-year-old turned down an approach from the Clarets, before they settled on Hayen as Scott Parker’s successor.
The club’s new chief football officer Diego Lopez, formerly of Genoa, will be involved in the process of identifying Burnley’s new man.
In the absence of a head coach, the Burnley Express understands Mike Jackson, Jack Cork and Henrik Jensen are overseeing training.
Hayen’s dismissal was announced in a terse 26-word statement, but there was no mention of his backroom staff, nor details of an interim appointment.
It’s understood, however, that Johan van Rumst and Matthias Bernaert - two Belgians who arrived with Hayen this summer - have also departed Turf Moor.
Jackson, Cork and Jensen remain in situ though and will take the reins on the training round today.
Jackson has previously served as interim boss on two previous occasions, following the departures of Sean Dyche and Scott Parker respectively. But it’s yet to be confirmed if he will take the lead once again.
Hayen, who lasted just 106 days in the role, has been down at Gawthorpe this morning to say his goodbyes to staff and players.
Burnley are back in action next Saturday, when they host Portsmouth at Turf Moor looking to pick up a first home league win in 371 days.
