The figures come from web experts at seobacklinks.com, who counted UK Google searches in October and November 2025 that paired the word bonfire with the name of an organised public display, its venue or the town it is named after. They did this for 103 displays across England, Scotland and Wales, using 454 search terms and the monthly figures Google publishes for each.

The 10 ranked here for the North West are the most searched-for of those with a 2026 date confirmed by the organiser or council, checked on October 9th, and taking place on or after Monday, October 26th. Searches for a whole city, such as bonfire night Manchester, were not given to any one display, and searches about an incident at an event were left out. Google does not publish figures for searches containing the word fireworks, so displays that people mostly look up as fireworks, including the big London ones, rank lower here than they would on all searches. Google also rounds its monthly figures, so displays a few hundred searches apart are effectively level.

Heaton Park's searches came in a year when Manchester City Council held no display there. The council is bringing its free fireworks back to Heaton Park, Wythenshawe Park and Platt Fields Park on Saturday 7 November, without bonfires.

The two are 13th and 14th in the UK. Towneley Bonfire in Burnley is third in the region on 8,210 searches and Bowdon Bonfire in Altrincham is fourth on 7,820. Four of the 10 are free, and all four are run by councils, in Manchester, Carlisle, Chorley and Rochdale.

Across the UK, Lewes Bonfire in East Sussex is the most searched-for event at 130,750.

Oliver Weston, founder of seobacklinks.com, said: "Heaton Park was searched for as much as anywhere in the North West last autumn, and that was in a year when it had no display. That tells you how much people have missed it.

"The rest of the list is a mix. Half of the nights are put on by councils and the other half by Round Tables, a sports club and a community centre. Some of these are cheaper if you book ahead, so it is worth looking before the night."
