The Belgian is in advanced talks with German giants Bayern Munich over a surprise move to become to new manager in the dugout at the Allianz Arena.
The Clarets boss has agreed personal terms with the Bavarian club, with a compensation package now being negotiated between the two parties.
First appointed in the summer of 2022, Kompany enjoyed an unforgettable debut campaign at Turf Moor, transforming Burnley’s style of play and waltzing to the Championship title in the process.
Life in the Premier League was much more of a challenge, however, with the Clarets suffering an immediate relegation back to the second flight after amassing a measly 24 points.
Here, we take a look at some of the highs and lows of Kompany’s two-year spell:

13. Dissenting voices
Burnley fans have stuck by Kompany this season despite the low points tally, apart from one occasion. After a miserable 3-0 defeat away to Crystal Palace in February, which followed a 5-0 thrashing by Arsenal, fans in the away end let their feelings be known at full-time. Photo: Alex Davidson

14. Making amends
Despite opposition, Kompany stuck with the inexperienced James Trafford over Arijanet Muric in goal for the first 28 games of the season. He finally made the switch in March for the game against Brentford and, despite a couple of high-profile blunders, Muric would go on to perform far better. But by then it was too little, too late. 15. Seeing red
After Chelsea were awarded a hugely contentious penalty against his side, which also saw Lorenz Assignon sent off, Kompany was shown a straight red card for his remonstrations on the sidelines. It later emerged the Belgian accused the referee Darren England of being a "f*****g cheat". Photo: Richard Pelham

16. Glimmer of hope
Wins against Brentford and Sheffield United and a run of just one defeat in eight briefly gave the Clarets some hope during the final stages of the campaign. Points deductions for Everton and Nottingham Forest also helped their cause. Photo: Stu Forster
