The Belgian is in advanced talks with German giants Bayern Munich over a surprise move to become to new manager in the dugout at the Allianz Arena.
The Clarets boss has agreed personal terms with the Bavarian club, with a compensation package now being negotiated between the two parties.
First appointed in the summer of 2022, Kompany enjoyed an unforgettable debut campaign at Turf Moor, transforming Burnley’s style of play and waltzing to the Championship title in the process.
Life in the Premier League was much more of a challenge, however, with the Clarets suffering an immediate relegation back to the second flight after amassing a measly 24 points.
Here, we take a look at some of the highs and lows of Kompany’s two-year spell:

9. Wake up call
Burnley were given the most difficult game possible on the opening day of the Premier League season - treble-winning Manchester City. The Clarets were beaten convincingly 3-1 in the start of a long and miserable campaign. Photo: DARREN STAPLES

10. Finally getting off the mark
Burnley failed to win any of their first six games, but finally got off the mark with a dramatic 2-1 win away to fellow newly-promoted side Luton Town. Of the five wins Burnley picked up this season, three of them came against Luton and Sheffield United - the two sides that were also relegated alongside them. Photo: Marc Atkins

11. A measure of the man
In November 2023, Lyle Foster was forced to take an indefinite break from football due to his mental health. The South African was Burnley's top scorer at the time and he was a huge miss to the side, but the way Kompany and his staff handled the situation was a credit to the club. Photo: Clive Brunskill

12. Fury at the officials
Kompany previously gave his backing to officials and VAR after the well-publicised controversy during the Tottenham v Liverpool game. But the Clarets boss would soon pivot after a number of key decisions went against his side, none more so than Luton's last-gasp equaliser at Turf Moor. Photo: OLI SCARFF
