The four-time Premier League winner answered questions on a range of topics as he addressed the media in an hour long session at the Arthur Bellamy Media Facility at Gawthorpe.
Here are the stand-out quotes from the former Belgium international, who will be hoping to steer the Clarets to success in the Championship next season.
9. CULTURE
"That was massive for me. The culture in this club is unbelievable and I have to credit Sean [Dyche] and all the people that have worked in this building with him. I'd rather start with that every day of the week, than with a talented team with the opposite personalities. "We've got a good starting point and that's not going to change. I want to protect that and if I can sharpen that then I will do so." Photo: Clive Brunskill
10. AGGRESSION
"From a defensive side, most of you know that I've got a little bit of an aggressive side, so I can't have any of my players pulling out of challenges. No way! Players will have to be on the front foot and work hard. I don't think the North West is a bad fit for that." Photo: OLI SCARFF
11. FIXTURES
"It's a complicated start, playing against some tough teams and some teams that have been tipped for promotion. But you start more difficult, you recover a few games later. It will give us a good idea of where the team is early doors and maybe that's better. "That is the hardest part, how quickly you can turn it around, especially when you have got new players and new ideas coming in, and still a little bit of uncertainty. It is like this when a club gets relegated. "It is normal. But in terms of what I've seen the team do on the training pitch, and the togetherness they have shown in the first few days, that is one thing we will take from the previous season into the new season which will help us." 12. RIVALRIES
"I've watched a lot of Championship games and, as you know, I live my life for rivalries. I love it and I hope I can pass this on to the players. It's what you play football for: you've got trophies and then you've got rivalries." Photo: OLI SCARFF
