The four-time Premier League winner answered questions on a range of topics as he addressed the media in an hour long session at the Arthur Bellamy Media Facility at Gawthorpe.
Here are the stand-out quotes from the former Belgium international, who will be hoping to steer the Clarets to success in the Championship next season.
13. HANDS ON APPROACH
"Since I've been announced I am the manager so I take full responsibility for the players who sign or not. I'm really happy with the enthusiasm I've seen, not just players within the club, but everywhere around. The interest to come to Burnley means it really hasn't been a position where we've been chasing players. "At this moment in time there's a lot of interest for Burnley Football Club. That side of things has been rolling quite nicely and I'm hoping that in the future we will be able to demonstrate that we're a good club to be at, as it has been over the past 10 years. I hope that we'll be attractive for a lot of players to come here and improve." Photo: Richard Heathcote
14. CITY STARLETS
"Taylor [Harwood-Bellis] is a great lad, a great player, a leader and somebody I have a lot of time for. We'll see. Any transaction we make will only be in the benefit of Burnley Football Club. That is my only concern. "At this moment in time, with regulations changing, it's not hard at all to have conversations with any of the top clubs regarding their best talents. We're in quite a comfortable position when it comes to that. "We'll look at the best players and try to bring the best players to the club. If they can help us in the short-term, so be it, but ideally we want players who can help us in the long-term." Photo: Jan Kruger
15. INCOMINGS
"We have to be smart now, not desperate! "There is also the reality of the squad. We have got an experienced squad and if we are to turn a financial corner, it is important to have balance in the squad, a mix of players who grow in value – not only for that reason but the football they can give us – and the players that hold that culture together and what has made Burnley special over the years. "The recruitment staff are going through hundreds of players a day. We get a lot of information on every player we get. If we have to bring in a player in a position we will be ready, any position, to bring in a player who is able to be successful." Photo: Michael Steele
16. OUTGOINGS
"You always have to expect some of your valuable players to move on. But it is a team with some experienced players and a depth of quality, certainly for the Championship. It's also a few players that earned the right to move on and we wish them well. We are looking forward to bringing in some exciting players. "There are players that attract interest and it's no secret that something will happen there but there is no rush. There are still some positions depending on certain exits. If there is an offer for a player that we can't refuse, the way we work towards it is we activate a lot of options." Photo: Lewis Storey
