The Clarets came from behind to win 3-1 in their season finale thanks to a Josh Brownhill double and a Jaidon Anthony strike.
It looked like it would be enough for Scott Parker’s men to deservedly finish in first place, but Leeds United snatched the trophy away from them with a 91st minute winner at Plymouth.
Nevertheless, it’s still been a remarkable campaign for the Clarets, who end the season 33 unbeaten, having lost just twice and conceding just 16 times in 46 games.
Here’s how Burnley’s players rated:

9. Josh Brownhill - 9/10
Finishes the season with an incredible 18 goals from midfield with another double. His absence from the team of the season becomes even harder to explain. Photo: Matt McNulty

10. Marcus Edwards - 7/10
Given more space than he’s normally accustomed to and always looked a threat, but end product wasn’t always there. Had enough chances to score. Photo: Matt McNulty

11. Jaidon Anthony - 8/10
At the heart of a lot of Burnley’s excellent attacking play. Deserved his goal after squandering a good three or four clear-cut chances. Photo: Matt McNulty

12. Ashley Barnes - 7/10
Played a crucial role in Brownhill’s equaliser, crunching into a challenge to keep the ball alive. Always netted with a scrambled effort at the near post too. Photo: Alex Livesey
