The Clarets took a 10th minute lead when Manchester City starlet climbed highest to guide Josh Brownhill’s corner past goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.
However, the away side’s lead was short-lived and the Lilywhites were level just five minutes later.
Brad Potts’ header from a Robbie Brady set-piece proved problematic and Jordan Storey profited from Arijanet Muric’s slip to force the ball over the line despite the best efforts of Josh Cullen.
The visitors continued to control the game and pressed for a winner, but failed to find another way through the Championship’s meanest defence.
Here are the ratings.

9. Josh Brownhill 6.5
Left no stone unturned in his bid to guide the Clarets to victory against his former club. Dropped between the lines to get on the ball, linked play well, and moved effortlessly in possession while also making dummy runs to aid the ball-carrier. Added another goal contribution to his ever-growing tally this season when providing the corner for Taylor Harwood-Bellis to score. Photo: CameraSport - Richard Martin-Roberts

10. Jay Rodriguez 6.5
Held the ball up well, allowing his team-mates to get higher up the pitch, before bringing them into play. Didn't pose much of a goal threat, but often the only body in the box, meaning he was outnumbered when the ball was delivered. Still, proving to be a key cog in Burnley's new system. 11. Nathan Tella 6.5
A couple of penetrative runs had supporters on their feet, and the Southampton loanee looked a threat when picking up the ball further infield, but the Clarets were unable to get the best out of their star man when pinned to the touchline. His departure in the 73rd minute is another cause for concern. Photo: CameraSport - Mick Walker

12. Jordan Beyer 7
Showed impeccable composure to slot in at the back deep into a Lancashire derby. Comfortable on the ball, moving it swiftly across the backline, and wasn't hesitant or intimidated when chasing the ball towards his own goal when pressurised by the opposition. Very good signs from the debutant. Photo: Andy Ford/Burnley FC
