'Hope': Zian Flemming's Burnley future discussed by new boss Nicky Hayen
New boss Nicky Hayen discusses Zian Flemming’s Burnley future
While every player has their price, Burnley boss Nicky Hayen is hopeful Burnley can hang onto star striker Zian Flemming.
The 27-year-old has been linked with Premier League sides this summer following his impressive debut campaign in the top flight.
Despite Burnley’s relegation woes, the Dutchman finished the campaign with 12 goals to his name, 11 of them coming in the Premier League.
Flemming has openly admitted he’d like to remain at that level, having fought so hard to reach what many consider to be the pinnacle of the game. But to date, no club has agreed a fee for his services.
When asked if Flemming is likely to stay, Hayen told the Burnley Express: “We hope so.
“Zian is also someone like Tino [Florentino Luis], he's working 100 per cent on the pitch. Zian is not a guy who's going to say like: ‘I want to leave Burnley’. He's working really hard.
“Of course he wants to take the next step in his career, but I think every player has a price. When the right price is paid by a Premier League club, for example, then he can go.
“But as long as that's not the case, Zian will commit himself even more than 100 per cent to the club and that's also the things that he shows on the training pitch.”
Flemming played no part in Burnley’s recent US pre-season tour, having been given extra time off after recently becoming a father.
But he returned to Gawthorpe at the start of the week and has trained as usual ahead of Sunday’s friendly against Ajax.
