'Table doesn't lie': Burnley man pulls no punches over start to the season
Josh Laurent provides damning assessment of Burnley’s start to the season
Josh Laurent has pulled no punches with his assessment of Burnley’s disastrous start to the season.
Heading into this weekend’s crucial clash against fellow strugglers Derby County, Nicky Hayen’s side find themselves bottom of the Championship table.
The Clarets, who are yet to win so far this season, come into the game off the back of a miserable 3-1 defeat at Swansea City last Saturday.
“We have to respond, it’s as simple as that,” Laurent told Burnley’s YouTube channel afterwards.
“We’re underperforming, the table doesn't lie. We are where we are. We need to realise it quick, where we are as a group, as a club.
“We have got a bit of an inexperience with the league. We have to step up. As the leaders in the dressing room, we need to step up.
“The players who are inexperienced, they need to step up. We need to learn quick and let's have it right, we've got to give the fans something to cheer about. They haven't had anything to cheer about.
“Again, hard-earned money to come and travel to Swansea and they get that, and it's another miserable weekend for them. It's just not good enough.”
While Burnley offered an attacking threat against Swansea on Saturday, producing 18 attempts on goal, it was at the other end of the pitch where they really let themselves down.
Max Weiss gifted Swansea their early lead, while the home side’s second also came from a poor Ugo Raghouber error.
“You give yourself such a big hill to climb,” Laurent added.
“You get that goal back and there's still a lot of time left, but you have to push, you have to take risks.
“You open yourselves up a little bit of course, and that's the nature of the game now. The game's a bit open for them and one counter-attack…like I say, I've got to watch the game back, I've got to watch the clips back. I don't know what the third goal is quite like.
“But as I say, chances were there. You've just got to learn up and grow up fast.”
