Supercomputer predicts Burnley’s final finish after horror start to the season

Supercomputer predicts Burnley’s final finish

Burnley find themselves bottom of the Championship table after a horror start to the season.

It means the Clarets, who still haven’t won a league game since February, sit below Lancashire rivals Preston North End on goal difference, having conceded 16 goals already.

It sets up an early season six-pointer on Saturday against Derby County, who also find themselves in the Championship’s bottom three.

Despite Burnley’s woes, the Betarades supercomputer, BETSiE, still has Hayen’s side to finish in mid-table.

It’s well off their pre-season predictions, which had Burnley in contention for another automatic promotion back to the Premier League, but at least they’re away from any danger.

The model simulated the league season 100,000 times, accounting for all match results from pre-season, the previous campaign and the current season to date.

It projects outcomes based on pre-season expectations, fixture difficulty, and underlying performance metrics such as xG for and against.

Here’s the forecasted final table:

  1. West Ham - 84.4points
  2. Wolves - 79.4
