Nicky Hayen revealed double Burnley injury blow in final act as boss

Kyle Walker and Armando Broja latest to pick up injuries

Kyle Walker and Armando Broja both picked up injuries during Burnley’s heavy defeat to Lincoln City at the weekend.

Broja made a rare start up front in the absence of Jamie Vardy but lasted just 13 minutes, forced to hobble off to be replaced by Andreas Hountondji.

His departure was not met with sympathy from the travelling Burnley fans, who booed and chanted “you’re not fit to wear the shirt” in the striker’s direction.

His replacement Hountondji scored Burnley’s opener to register his first goal for the club, but the Imps came from behind to claim a 4-1 victory at Sincil Bank.

Speaking in his last interview as Burnley boss, the now sacked Nicky Hayen revealed it could be a bad one for Broja.

“His groin popped, so that’s another injury,” he said.

When asked if it could be serious, he added: “I think so, but we have to wait. But he felt it really badly.

“I said it before, it's the feeling that everything is against us at the moment, even the ball saved on the line. You even had the ball on the post, you missed the penalty kick, so there are a lot of situations against us.

“We didn't have the luck, but it's also reality and this is something you have to face also.”

Walker, meanwhile, was hooked off at half-time to be replaced by Connor Roberts, who also took the captain’s armband.

Many had assumed it was a result of Walker’s poor defending for Lincoln’s equaliser, which came deep into first-half stoppage-time.

“No, it was about an injury,” Hayen confirmed. “I don't know [how serious].”

On a more positive note, Josh Cullen, Jaydon Banel and Ashley Barnes all played 45 minutes for Burnley’s Under-21s at West Ham on Friday night.

But the Clarets remain without Ben Amos, Anel Ahmedhodzic, Jordan Beyer, Bashir Humphreys, Shurandy Sambo, Hannibal, Aaron Ramsey, Mike Tresor, Michael Obafemi and Zeki Amdouni.
