Burnley’s off-the-field troubles coming to the attention of the new regulator
Burnley Football Club’s recent off-the-field troubles have not escaped the attention of the new independent football regulator (IFR).
The club’s parent company Velocity Capital (UK) Holdings has been hit with a compulsory strike-off notice over its financial accounts, which are almost two years overdue.
A First Gazette notice for compulsory strike-off indicates that the company is at risk of being removed from the official register.
If Companies House strikes your business off, it will be dissolved and legally cease to exist.
ALK Capital insist they are in “direct contact” with Companies House, however, and claim they are “fully committed” to bringing their accounts up to date as quickly as possible.
This is not the first time Velocity, the sports-investment arm of ALK that also owns Spanish side Espanyol, has been hit with a similar warning.
A First Gazette notice was previously issued in February 2025, but was resolved within a month.
Velocity has yet to file any accounts on Companies House since its incorporation in March 2023. Its first accounts were due by December 24, 2024.
ALK was also hit with similar warnings in December 2022 and December 2024. The first one was discontinued, while the second was quickly dismissed.
The new regulator, which was formally created in July 2025, have requested further information from the club and are also in “active discussions” with the English Football League (EFL) regarding the matter.
"The IFR is aware of the striking-off notice in relation to Burnley FC's parent company, Velocity Capital (UK) Holdings,” an IFR spokesperson told the Burnley Express.
"We have already requested further information from the club and are in active discussions with the EFL on this issue.
"We cannot comment further at this time.”
The Burnley Express also asked the IFR if they have been in contact with Companies House, but - at the time of writing - they’ve yet to respond.
