Burnley boss addresses Marcus Edwards and Mike Tresor squad list snub

Nicky Hayen addresses squad list omissions

Marcus Edwards and Mike Tresor have been told they’re free to leave Burnley if an opportunity arises.

But Nicky Hayen also hasn’t ruled out one of them filling the last space that has been left free in Burnley’s 25-man squad list.

Despite the recent arrival of Jamie Vardy, the Clarets continue to scour the free agent market for one more addition.

But if no-one else arrives, one of either Edwards and Tresor could be added back in. If not, they’ll be unable to feature until January at the earliest.

That is, unless, they move on - with some foreign transfer windows still open.

Addressing their absence, Hayen said: “I already informed the players one or two weeks ago that we're looking for players, and if they had an option they could go.

“But there are still spots available. Now, with the signing of Jamie [Vardy] of course one [spot is still free].

“So we'll see if Marcus or Mike fill in that spot, but I informed them already that there's a possibility that they don't make the squad list.”

When asked if Burnley are finished in the free agent market, Hayen added: “We're looking. So we still have a spot available at the moment, and we're just looking what is the best profile for us to improve the team.

“So of course Josh Cullen is coming back also, he's like a six that we miss a little bit in our team at the moment, but everything is open.”

Burnley fans were also surprised to see Humphreys’ name not on the list, despite his current injury.

It had been estimated the defender would miss around eight weeks of action, but Hayen has suggested his knee injury could end up keeping him out for longer.

“It will be approximately around mid-December that he comes back,” he said. “And then before you have your game fitness it will be January and then you have the new window.”
