Burnley man changes international allegiance as 8 players earn call-ups
Marcus Edwards switches international allegiance
Burnley’s Marcus Edwards has switched his international allegiance to Cyprus.
The 27-year-old has been named in their latest squad for the upcoming international break, which sees the Clarets break away from their league schedule for three weeks.
The winger, born in London, represented England from Under-16 to Under-20 level, but has never featured for the senior team.
He’s available to represent France through his father and Cyprus through his mother, but he’s now obtained a Cypriot passport and has received a first-ever call-up for their upcoming Nations League games.
Cyprus, ranked 124th in the world, play Latvia home and away during the next few weeks, while they also take on Montenegro and Armenia.
The former Tottenham academy product recently made a surprise return to Burnley’s starting XI on Saturday for the 1-1 draw against Derby County.
The wide man had previously been left out of Burnley’s 25-man squad list, but has since been re-registered and filled the vacant spot.
Elsewhere during this international break, Hjalmar Ekdal (Sweden), Oliver Sonne (Peru), Shurandy Sambo (Curacao), Connor Roberts (Wales) and Zeki Amdouni (Switzerland) will also be in action.
Max Weiss and Max Alleyne, meanwhile, have earned call-ups to the Under-21s side of Germany and England respectively.
The Clarets return to action with a trip to Watford on Saturday, October 10.
