Ribble Valley Borough Council launches online booking system for Ribblesdale Pool ahead of re-opening

The new online booking system will make it easier for people to book adult and children’s swimming lessons at Ribblesdale Pool, which is due to re-open on Monday 9th November after a major refurbishment.

An online booking system has been launched at Ribblesdale Pool, Clitheroe, ahead of its re-opening after a major multi-million pound refurbishment.

The online system makes it easier for people to book adult and children’s swimming lessons online at customers’ convenience rather than having to contact the pool’s reception desk via a phone call during working hours.

Ribblesdale Pool has been closed to the public since Easter to allow essential improvements to extend its life by up to 15 years. It is due to re-open Monday 9th November.

Councillor Stuart Hirst, chairman of the council’s community services committee, said: “I’m sure people can’t wait to see the (Ribblesdale) pool open its doors again. Not long now.

“Ahead of the re-opening we have introduced a new online booking system that will make it easier for people to book and pay for swimming lessons. It applies to both adult and children’s lessons and will make life easier for customers.

“It will also free up staff to allow them to deal with visitors more quickly and efficiently.”

Extensive work has been carried out to install new mechanical and electrical systems, including water filtration and heating equipment, replace the main pool lining, and lay anti-slip surfacing around the poolside and changing rooms, improve the reception area and brighten up the changing rooms.

It follows extensive surveys of the building that made it clear that without the work, the pool faced an ever-increasing risk of failure of parts and infrastructure that could eventually force its closure.

Ribblesdale Pool was built 54 years ago and has already lasted longer than the expected “lifespan” of 35-40 years for a facility of its type.

The overall £4.25 million cost of the project was funded from the council’s capital programme.
