Nicky Hayen calls for Burnley unity after Mike Jackson's angry confrontation
Nicky Hayen addresses Mike Jackson’s angry spat with a fan
Nicky Hayen has called for unity between Burnley’s players, staff and supporters following Mike Jackson’s spat with a fan after the midweek game with Charlton Athletic.
The club’s first-team coach was visibly animated as he walked off the pitch and towards the tunnel following Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw.
Fans were left angry following the Addicks’ 96th-minute equaliser, which denied the Clarets a first home league win in 360 days.
Jackson was seen pointing to outside the ground as he clashed with what is understood to be one supporter housed in the Cricket Field Stand.
According to Clarets boss Hayen, Jackson had been the subject of a “personal insult that crossed the line”.
But in addressing the incident, Hayen stressed the importance of fans continuing to support the team as they look to arrest their poor start to the season.
“I didn't see it but I'm aware of the incident,” he said during Thursday’s press conference.
“What I can tell you about it is that it was a personal insult that crossed the line.
“It was an emotional reaction, but I don't want to go deeper than that. It was an emotional reaction and an insult that crossed the line.
“Like I’ve said before, we have to stick together, fans together with the staff, with the players and be united.
“We have to start first with winning games and performing, but we need their support.”
