Pendle pensioners urged to check Pension Credit eligibility

Pendle Borough Council is urging all pensioners in the borough to check their Pension Credit eligibility

Pendle pensioners are being urged to check they are not missing out on vital Pension Credit.

The Government has launched a major campaign to ensure eligible pensioners do not fail to take advantage of thousands of pounds they are entitled to.

Pendle Borough Council wants to make sure Pendle residents are aware of the money on offer - an income top-up that could provide vital help with everyday costs.

Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “We are urging all pensioners in the borough to check their Pension Credit eligibility – or get a family member to help them make a claim.

“Pension Credit is worth more than £4,500 a year on average, providing a vital income boost for low-income pensioners.

“As pensioners continue to feel cost-of-living pressures, every day we hear heartbreaking stories of older people enduring financial hardship because they aren’t aware of Pension Credit, or that they qualify for the support.

“We welcome the DWP’s commitment to raising awareness and understanding of Pension Credit.”

Coun. Mohammad Hanif, the Council’s Portfolio Holder for Finance, Health and Leisure, added: “Far too many pensioners are missing out on support they are entitled to.

“Pension Credit is worth more than £4,500 a year on average and can make a real difference to people’s finances, while also opening the door to help with bills and other everyday costs.

“We want to make sure pensioners in our communities get the support they’re entitled to and don’t miss out on money that could help them in retirement.”
