The free event was open to everyone in the community. Witches, wizards, ghouls and skeletons came through the doors, along with one very small dog dressed as a witch.

Residents loved seeing the costumes and cheering on the children as they played Halloween games, while youngsters and parents could also help themselves to the "Witches' Brew" in the home's Memory Lane Tea Room.

The home was decorated inside and out. A giant spider hung from the ceiling, along with a hand dangling above the archway. Pumpkins lit up the inside and outside of the building, witches' hats lined the corridors, gravestones and rats crept along the walls, and a headless figure greeted visitors at the door.

The event was a team effort, with help from staff across the home who decorated the building.

Cath Mellin, Registered Manager at The Manor House, said: "Halloween is one of the highlights of our year. Seeing over 100 children in costume, and the smiles on our residents' faces, says everything about what The Manor House is about. We are not just a care home; we are part of Chatburn. Our doors are always open, and we love bringing the community in."

Jackie, from the activities team, said: "We started planning weeks ago, and the whole team got involved with the decorations. The giant spider was the star! The best part was watching residents and children laughing together. Splat the Rat was very popular with everyone, whatever their age."
