A popular golf club, which has only just re-opened its doors after lockdown, was targeted by arsonists last night.

Four fire engines were called to Marsden Park Golf Club in Town House Road, Nelson, just after 10pm after a patio area and several small vehicles were set alight.

Firefighters used three hose reels, four breathing apparatus, lighting, a thermal imaging camera, a hearth kit and ladders to bring the fire under control and they remained at the scene for several hours.

News of the arson attack, which has caused significant damage, was announced this morning on the club's facebook page.

And, while the course will remain closed today while police investigate the attack, club owners vowed that 'the show will go on' and people will be golfing this week.
