Game Review: WRC 4

Milestone have listened to the gaming community and re worked the format to create a game that is exciting and visually stunning, gone are the over complicated menus and the difficult handling to be replaced with a much slicker and less intimidating game.

This being a driving sim there really is only one way to enjoy this game and that is of course with a steering wheel and this is where the excitement begins, maybe a slight problem with handbrake turns which is done via the B button and it is an art in itself to get right.

The cars look great with highly detailed renderings of the official WRC vehicles from the WRC 13 calendar.

The all improved career mode is much simpler and less flashy than previous versions and you can achieve career points that enable you to climb the ladder of rally greatness and progress through the ranks and become world champion.

Hot seat is a local multiplayer for playing off line with friends and World Championship allows the player to take on competitors in for an entire WRC season in all 4 WRC categories.

New to the franchise is the on-line play a great addition in my opinion; you can now take up to 16 players from around the world and with the ranking system allowing you to compete for the best times and watch replays of the top 100 times.

Junior WRC, WRC 3, WRC 2 and WRC are all featured so you can work your way up through the ranks, but beware it’s no cake walk folks this is a full on sim and it demands your full attention.

WRC 4 is by far the best version yet with superb graphics, plenty of content and superb handling, this should satisfy any rally fan and newbie alike and has risen the bar for rally sims, its slick presentation and intuitive gameplay make for a pleasurable experience. The WRC franchise has risen from being a Dirt wannabe into a full blown racing sim that is accessible to all and it’s a positive step in the right direction for Milestone.
