Grand National Trial the highlight of Haydock's Saturday meeting

The meeting gets under way at 1.30pm at the Merseyside venue, with the finale at 5pm and we have previewed the pick of the action with tips and analysis.

The feature race of the day is the £75,000 William Hill Grand National Trial (2.40pm). The contest serves as a trial for the Grand National at Aintree in April.

Nine horses go to post for the extended three miles and four furlong event. The market is headed by 4/1 favourite Notachance who bids to back up two exciting victories this term. He gamely fended off Achille in the Classic Chase at Warwick last time out and looks to have leading claims for this assignment.

Enqarde (11/2) bounced back to form with a stylish success at Ascot last time out and is another with a chance of defying an 8lb rise. Sojourn (15/2) was a good second at the track last time out and is proven on heavy ground. He is another to consider along with Welsh National second The Two Amigos (7/1) who is enjoying a fine season.

Top-weight Ramses De Teillee (10/1) is a top-class talent on his day but needs to bounce back from finishing a well-beaten 12th in the Welsh Grand National in January. Lord Du Mesnil (8/1) is a course and distance winner at the track and is another who could play a leading role if bouncing back to form.

The field is completed by Potters Legend (12/1) and Perfect Candidate (16/1) who bolted up over course and distance on his first start of the season.

The £30,000 Grade Two Rendlesham Hurdle (2.05pm) is another highlight live on ITV Racing over an extended three miles. On The Blind Side (3/1) has relished his return to timber this term and was a game winner on his latest start at Market Rasen. His opposition includes Itchy Feet (3/1) who revert to hurdles following three fine efforts in defeat over fences so far this term.

Reigning Stayers’ Hurdle champion Lisnagar Oscar (6/1) is also in the mix but needs to bounce back from two disappointing efforts this term. Emitom (5/1) is another classy type and reverts to hurdles having failed to justify favouritism in two starts over fences, whilst Main Fact returns to slightly calmer waters having finished seventh in the Grade One Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot in December last time out.

The £15,000 Juvenile Hurdle (3.14pm) has attracted a small but select field of four runners. Monmiral is unbeaten in two starts for Paul Nicholls and bolted up by 11 lengths in Graded company at Doncaster in December.

He takes on the exciting Nassalam who won his first two starts for Sussex trainer Gary Moore, before finishing second in the Grade One Finale Hurdle at Chepstow in January. He is the selection of Betting Expert’s Stephen Harris.

The four runners are completed by Elham Valley, fourth in the same event at Chepstow last time out and Progressive who needs to improve on a fourth-placed effort in Listed company at Doncaster on her latest run.
