Leading ladies are celebrated!

Clitheroe Golf Club members gathered in force last Friday to celebrate the achievements of their leading lady members at a dinner hosted by the club captain Simon Raine and lady captain Maureen Micklewright.

Guests of honour were Jane Forrest, Chris Stokes, Kim Andrew, Kirsty Taylor and Sophie Lamb. Jane won the Dutch Open in 1996 and is a former England coach and a founder member of the Women’s Professional Golf Association. Chris is a two-times Lancashire County Senior Champion and a former County Captain and President, while both Kim, the British Ladies’ Amateur Champion in 1998, and Kirsty are former Curtis Cup players, Kirsty having also won the Wales Ladies Championship of Europe in 2005. Sophie, 16, already has a string of county, national and international successes behind her and is a member of the England Golf National Girl’s Squad.

Meanwhile, the Advertiser and Times Trophy Final over 16 holes was a triumph for Bill Farnworth who had a cracking back nine to win the trophy at Clitheroe Golf Club with 33 points.

Paul Levet matched the total but the double bogey on the 18th cost him top spot after cards. Ken Mantle took third with 31.

Peter Robinson OBE DL with two birdies and an eagle won last week’s medal with a remarkable 79-17-62 return.

John Braithwaite was second with a nett 65, just one point ahead of Andrew Spouse and Tom Poole, who was two under after five and level at the turn.

Two under for the last four after a blob on the 14th and Garry Moores sailed into top spot in Sunday’s Stableford with 41 points.

A solid run in and Stephen Cherry took second prize with a one-point advantage over Stuart Nunn and Butcher Hacking.

Ralph Postlethwaite won the Division One Prize after cards with Julian Troup both returning 35 points.

Mike Ainsworth’s 38 points in the 16 Hole Seniors’ Stableford was good enough for a one-point margin over the in-form Trevor Jones and Keith Allen.

The Ladies’ Fourball BB found Jan Walsh in good form and well supported by Judith Bishop they took the prize with 36 points.

Marilyn Fletcher set the pace and Tracey Bentley added the cream with a birdie and three pars at the end to slip into second.

The Sue Cartledge/Sharon Turner combination pipped Carolyn Blockeel and Edith Child by one point for third.

It was singles stableford day on Saturday at Whalley, and it was Bill Banks who won with a very steady 38pts which has now reduced him to a handicap of 16 - not before time!!

Second in Division Two went to Ed Gierat with 37points, and third was George Blenkinshaw with 36.

Winner of Division One was Peter Fletcher with 36 points, just pipping Kevin Moore, also on 36 points, with third place going to John Kearsley with 34.

There were five twos on the day going to K. Moore, P. Wray (again), S. Green, E. Gierat and the competition winner Banks.

It is the presentation night on Friday, October 24th, with a three-course meal served.

Last Thursday, Whalley ladies played in a Medal round . Viv Lee was first with 103-32-71, ahead of Gloria Bentley with109-36-73, and Sue Madden with 105-28-77 .

At Wilpshire Golf Club, the ladies competed in a Five Clubs and a Putter competition.

Winner was C. Platt with a 104-28-76 winner, ahead of T. Gallagher (111-31-80).
