Jay Rodriguez seemed to have scored the only goal of the game on the half hour against his former club as Vincent Kompany watched the hosts spurn a series of chances to at least draw themselves level.
West Brom did finally get their leveller though eight minutes into added time with Brandon Thomas-Asante scoring a debut goal to remember.
Here’s how the players rated. Agree with our marks out of 10?

9. Josh Brownhill
6/10 - Not the best performance from the 'Vegan Iniesta', unable to show the player of the month form he has done recently. Photo: CameraSport - Paul Greenwood

10. Nathan Tella
9/10 - Burnley have some player on their hands. The Saints star has mastered the run in behind, and his brilliance will give David Button nightmares in the morning. Won the penalty and could've scored himself. Photo: CameraSport - Paul Greenwood

11. Jay Rodriguez
8/10. Led the line really well, pulling the Baggies' defence into pockets of space that Tella could exploit. Such a step up from Barnes. Photo: CameraSport - Paul Greenwood

12. Substitutes
Darko Churlinov - 6/10. The Macedonian could have killed the game off so many times...his strike off the post, his (lack of a) square ball to Gudmundsson just moments after coming on...but his renewed efforts and general daring nature should have been rewarded with a penalty. Johann Berg Gudmundsson - 6/10. Not as daring as his substitute counterpart, but offered Burnley a period of calmness when they needed it. Ashley Barnes - 6/10. Struggled to make an impact on the game. Samuel Bastien - 6/10. Played just the final 13 minutes. Bailey Peacock-Farrell - 7/10. Nervy few moments for the Northern Irishman, but he largely dealt well under pressure. Photo: CameraSport - Dave Howarth
