Jay Rodriguez seemed to have scored the only goal of the game on the half hour against his former club as Vincent Kompany watched the hosts spurn a series of chances to at least draw themselves level.
West Brom did finally get their leveller though eight minutes into added time with Brandon Thomas-Asante scoring a debut goal to remember.
Here’s how the players rated. Agree with our marks out of 10?
5. Ian Maatsen
5/10 - Perhaps slightly harsh, but he was all over the place defensively and West Brom looked to exploit that. Lucky not to concede from his walkabout nature more than once. Photo: CameraSport - Paul Greenwood
6. Jack Cork
7/10 - Cautioned, but was one of Burnley's better players. Captain's performance as he steadied the ship. Photo: CameraSport - Dave Howarth
7. Josh Cullen
6/10 - The Irishman wasn't able to exert his usual brilliance in the middle of the park thanks to West Brom packing the centre. Still solid. Photo: Alex Livesey
8. Vitinho
6/10 - Again, not amazing from the Brazilian, but he did well to stop any real attacks happening down the right-hand side of Burnley's defence. Photo: CameraSport - Dave Howarth
