The New Zealander had netted just three times heading into the new year as the Clarets were consistently advertised as the division’s lowest scorers.
Burnley’s all-time record goalscorer in the Premier League had endured a similarly sterile spell during 2018-19 when netting just once in the league at the midway point.
But he would finish the term with double figures, after being given the opportunity to turn things around, just as he has done this season.
“(Faith) is massive in any role,” he said. “Trust and support is what you need in players.
“We all go through times when it is sticky, you ain’t playing well and you ain’t scoring goals, that’s just how it is.
“Unfortunately some of us had that at the start of the season. It is a case of getting your head down and working hard.
“Nobody is going to hand you goals on a plate, so make sure you work hard and the goals will come eventually because they have in the past.
“You know you are a good player and you back your own ability and that’s what we are all doing as strikers at the moment.”
Since returning from injury at the end of February, when making a cameo at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Kiwi striker has netted seven times in as many games.
After sitting out a chunk of games with a hamstring injury sustained against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, he said: “It has been a tough season for everybody in the sense of the amount of games and how congested it has been.
“To have the step away, the break to let the body recover midway through the season isn’t a bad idea.
“I think it has worked out very well in my case. It shows a winter break or things like that could be a great option for players just to let the body recover and mentally focus ready to go again.
“I was lucky enough that the physio got me back into great shape and feeling fighting fit and it has coincided with me doing well at the same time.”
Wood, who missed the 1-1 draw against Fulham at Turf Moor earlier in the season, says he’ll keep trusting his instinct while in this rich vein of form.
He said: “Instinct is what you have and what you feel. That sometimes is where the coach stands back and says go and play your game, go and be you. That’s when you can find your areas and goals.”
