Easton hurt by Burnley FC defeat

BRIAN Easton intends to use the hurt of successive defeats to help kick Burnley’s season into gear.

The Clarets are only outside the Championship relegation zone on goal difference after losing to Middlesbrough last week, and Peterborough United on Saturday.

Easton was one of the better performers at London Road, and he said: “It’s really disappointing. All the boys and the gaffer are really disheartened by the result but I think overall we were the better team and deserved to win.

“But once again we have just given away a couple of sloppy goals and that’s let us down.

“Most of the game we defended as a team, not just the defenders, quite solidly but it’s just little lapses and little mistakes that we just need to cut out because at this level teams are going to punish you.

“And the other way round teams aren’t giving us chances like that, we need to work really hard for our goals.

“We worked hard for the full 90 minutes but that mountain to climb was just a bit too much for us.

“We created a lot of opportunities and had a lot of the ball.”

And the Scotland Under 21 international feels there is a fine line between the side turning defeats into wins: “Apart from the Middlesbrough game, where I don’t think anyone came out with any credit, in every other game we are almost there.

“But it’s not really fair to anyone, staff, ourselves or the fans nearly being there. We need to start getting results and getting them consistently.

“We are not far away but we are all hurting after two bad results in a row and we are looking forward to this week to rectifying it.

“With this league you have a lot of midweek games so we are not looking forward to it as anything different.

“Since we’ve got a small squad we will see quite a lot of the same players featuring on Tuesday against MK Dons and it’s something we want to do.”

The former Hamilton man hopes for a positive display and win against the League 1 pacesetters in the Carling Cup to take into tough home games against Southampton aand Nottingham Forest: “You always want to do well in the cup, we’ve got a home tie against a good team, because MK Dons are flying, and we want are going to take it one game at a time and concentrate on Tuesday and then we’ve got the big game at home to Southampton and we will be looking to take three points from that.

“It’s massive. Even if you get a couple of wins in a row you go into every game thinking you can’t get beat.

“I think once we get that and get habit of winning we will be a force to be reckoned with.

“We haven’t got a big squad but we have some really talented players in there and a strong team.

“Everything is there, just waiting to click into place. Hopefully it will come soon and we will be working hard to make sure it is sooner rather than later.”
