Lafferty doesn’t want Burnley’s season to end

Lafferty arrived in January from Derry, and has had a taste of Championship football, featuring in four games so far - all away from home.

It has been a tough baptism, although he has shown signs of being a very astute purchase.

And the Irishman admits he doesn’t want the season to end: “I’ve relished the opportunity

“It’s a shame personally that the season is coming to and end.

“I’ve got to look forward to next season now and try to play as many games as possible and stay in the team.

“I think getting a good pre-season under my belt will definitely help me.

“It’s been a bit tough coming in and trying to get up to speed.

“I feel like the season is coming to an end at the wrong time for me.

“It’s my aim to have a good pre-season and hit the ground running next year.”

First up, he would love a first team appearance at Turf Moor under his belt, with Bristol City rounding off the season on Saturday.

His four starts so far have come at Cardiff, Ipswich, Leicester and Blackpool, and he said: “It’s funny the four game’s I’ve played have been away from home.

“ But it’s great to play agains the quality of player that’s on offer in the Championship.

“I wanted to come to play at these stadiums and try to play as many games as possible.”

We felt Saturday’s defeat at Bloomfield Road was avoidable, with 4-0 a very flattering scoreline for the hosts: “We could have prevented a lot of the goals, but we switched off, myself included.

“I think if we could have scored in the first half that would have made things a bit more interesting in the second half.

“I think we could have gone on and won it.

“Even at 1-0 down at half-time we felt confident we could have gone on and won the game.

“We got a lot of crosses into the box and possibly could have scored one or two.

“We took a lot of confidence from the first half.

“Their goal took the wind out of us a bit and it was hard to get going again.

“If we had managed to get a goal though we could have grown in confidence and possibly could have got something.

“I think 4-0 flattered them a bit.

“But all-in-all against one of our biggest rivals it’s a bit disheartening.

“We need to pick ourselves up now to go again next week and finish the season on a high.”
