The striker, who replaced the injured Chris Wood in the 22nd minute against the Saints, cushioned Jeff Hendrick's pass before skipping past his marker and launching the ball past Alex McCarthy. Ashley Westwood had earlier scored Burnley's fastest ever goal in the Premier League, before Danny Ings drew the hosts level. Here are our ratings from the South Coast...
5. Ben Mee 8
Unfortunate with Southampton's equaliser when his opportunity to clear was impeded, but it was another strong display from the skipper. There isn't much that gets beyond him in the air or on the ground.
6. Jeff Hendrick 7
Found it hard to get into the game in the first half, though you could never criticise his work rate. Supplied the pass to Vydra to help Burnley restore their lead at St Mary's.
7. Dwight McNeil 7
Played too narrow in the first half, but produced when picking up more threatening positions. Untouchable with the ball at times in the second half and always capable of pulling a rabbit out of the hat.
8. Jack Cork 8
Collided with Mee in the lead up to Ings's leveller, but battled heroically in treacherous conditions. Fought for every ball, contended every 50/50 and broke up play to get Burnley on the front foot.
