The Clarets went second in the Championship as Andre Gray made it seven goals in six games with a brace to take over as top scorer in the division, before substitute Matt Taylor nicked a late third to seal the points, after Ross McCormack pulled one back.

Dyche was delighted in particular with the first half showing, as Burnley motored into a 2-0 lead, and their resilience after the break: "I thought first half we were excellent, in every way you want a team to work, first half, the organisation, the tempo, the control in the play, the ability to play, to shift them, and you've got to make chances and score, which we did as well, and kept them to minimal.

"I was very pleased with the first half. But the one thing we know about football at all levels, and certainly the Championship, is its hard to dominate for 90-odd minutes.

"And they've got the freedom, as strange as it sounds, 2-0 down, nothing to lose, they've just scored eight goals in two games, so they came out and, what people forget about the feeling of that first 20-25 minutes, because they had a lot of play and went direct way quicker, but we had two unbelievable chances to make it 3-0.

"If they go in...you'd like to think we've created enough to win the game, which we did."

Gray takes the headlines again, but Dyche felt there were several impressive performances: "I thought Jonah's passing was excellent, his cross for Andre's first goal, a great technical cross, his pass into Scotty in between players, before a lovely slide pass for Andre's second, and he found Andre in behind second half, and he hit the bar.

"Joey again did all the dirty stuff, the ugly path of the game, he worked, he fought, he headed it, he kicked it, good shape from the defenders, the will and demand of the group.

"Vokesy was excellent, he hasn't nicked a goal, but had one cleared off the line, and you do reflect on a total performance - all the things that make an effective team were on show, against a good side."

And of his record signing Gray?: "He's enjoying his football, and usually you get performances, that's what we try to set here, the processes, the platform we give players, and he's taken to it. I told him he would."

It was more of a nervy second half that it might have been, after McCormack halved the deficit, but Dyche noted: "It's a strange one, the crowd were more nervous at 2-0 than 0-0, and I couldn't really work that out.

"They know the script, they've seen this division, and the Premier League, they know it's very difficult to dominate totally.

"Teams have the right to change, and they had nothing to lose at half-time, you have to do something when you're 2-0 down.

"But I thought we controlled it very well, I don't think there were a lot of shots on target from them, so there was good resilience and good organisation.

"As ever, we stayed in it, created chances on the counter, and there was a great bit of clarity from Scotty to find a great pass to Matty, and a sublime deft finish to clear the game up.
