Burnley's Josh Cullen shares update on his recovery from devastating ACL injury
Josh Cullen believes he’s over the worst of his devastating ACL injury as he continues the long road back to fitness.
The Burnley midfielder has been out of action since the end of December, when he suffered the crushing blow during a 0-0 draw with Everton just after Christmas.
The 30-year-old has been a big miss for Scott Parker’s side, who have since suffered relegation in their captain’s absence.
When Cullen suffered the injury, Parker estimated the midfielder would be out of action for around nine months, which would mean he’d also miss the start of next season.
While the Republic of Ireland international is still a long way away from returning, he’s pleased to be making steady progress in his recovery.

“It’s obviously been tough managing the injury,” he told Burnley’s Keeping The Faith documentary on X.

"It’s been three or four months now and I feel like I’m over the worst of it, to be fair. The first month was tough pain-wise and not being able to do a lot, being stuck at home and not really feeling like yourself to be honest.
"But now I’m back in the gym and moving around a bit freer and able to do a bit more.
"It can be tough when you see the lads going out to train, you’re missing games, you’re missing matches and you’re missing that feeling.
"To have people around that make you laugh and make you smile [is key], because there can be some tough days.
"I can’t speak highly enough though of the medical staff here. It’s not only the professionalism they have in their field and the knowledge they have, but also the people they are – and that goes for everyone around the building. It makes the time go past a bit quicker by keeping in good spirits.”
